Georgia Golf Hall of Fame's Botanical Garden
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Georgia Golf Hall of Fame's Botanical Gardens (17 acres) are botanical gardens located at the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame, 1 11th Street, Augusta, Georgia. The gardens are open to the public; please call for times and prices.
Display gardens (8 acres) lie along the banks of the Savannah River, and include a rose garden with over 800 miniature rose varieties, as well as sculptures of famous golfers Raymond Floyd, Ben Hogan, Bobby Jones, Byron Nelson, Jack Nicklaus, and Arnold Palmer.
The actual Golf Hall of Fame building has never been constructed, and it is unlikely that it ever will. The state of Georgia has effectively cut off funding for the site. The Golf and Gardens may be forced to shut down as early as fall of 2007. The attraction attracts few visitors and talk has surfaced of building a new baseball stadium at the site for Augusta's minor leage baseball team, The Green Jackets, owned by Cal Ripken.
