Georgios Mavromichalis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Georgios Mavromichalis was son of the great Maniot primate Petros Mavromichalis.
When his father was captured, placed in prison and charged with high treason on the order of Governor of Greece John Capodistria , Georgios and his uncle Kostantinos Mavromichalis decided to take revenge. On 27 September (Julian calendar)/October 9 (Gregorian calendar) 1831, the duo decided to assassinate the Governor as he entered St Spyridon church in Nauplio. As his uncle stabbed Capodistrias, Georgios stabbed the president through the heart. As they were escaping Konstantinos was shot. An angry mob grabbed Georgios and beat him to death as his grieving father watched.
