I'm Richard Gibson, a geologist living in Butte, Montana. I've worked in the oil and gas exploration business, on environmental geology problems, and even as a mineralogist analyzing kidney stones. I've taught college field geology and other courses. Most recently I focus on geoscience education for the public, including being the former Education Director of the World Museum of Mining, and I also serve as a Study Leader for Smithsonian Journeys around the world.
My Wiki-work focuses on geology and some Western US articles; I also started Misty Fjords National Monument and did major expansions of Mount Jefferson (Montana) and List of oil-producing states . I contribute (rarely) to Reference Desk questions in geoscience and mineral resources including oil. I'm allegedly (meaning, very interested but haven't had much time for substantial contributions yet) a member of the following WikiProjects:
- Wikipedia:WikiProject_National_Register_of_Historic_Places
- Wikipedia:WikiProject_Rocks_and_minerals
- Wikipedia:WikiProject_Glaciers
- Wikipedia:WikiProject_Mountains
- Wikipedia:WikiProject_Montana
More information than you could imagine wanting can be found on my web site, gravmag.com.
