Gerald W. Coggin (born January 16, 1956) is the 1975 Men's Open National Water Ski Racing Champion.
Coggin was born in Tucson, Arizona, USA, and started water skiing when he was five years old. Both his parents, his brother, and two sisters all water skied. The family would practice at Apache Lake and Canyon Lake just outside Phoenix every weekend, even during the winter months. During his racing career he suffered from a broken back and knee. Coggin retired from water ski-racing in 1976 due to injury during a regional point qualifying race at Lake Havasu. He currently lives in Chandler, Arizona with his wife since 1977.
Coggin competed in the a ten lap, 25 mile race took place at Lake Port, California (Clear Lake) on 19–20 September, 1975. The circle track allowed the nineteen year old ski-racer to reach top speeds of 100 miles per hour, behind a Biesmeyer boat with a 482 cubic-inch Chevrolet driven by John Peters of Mesa, Arizona and won the title[citation needed]. He competed against eleven other slalom water ski racers. The water ski racers qualify for the national event through a series of point qualifying races throughout the year.
