Gerontology school

Gerontology is an emerging field of study that examines the process of aging -- something that we all experience. It looks at the needs, experiences and contributions of older persons through a multidisciplinary lens. Gerontology encompasses biological, psychological, economic, political, technological and sociological perspectives. One of the most frequent questions asked is how old are you? The answer forms the framework for all of the information about us that follows. However, life is not measured simply by the number of years we have lived. While chronological age is a useful gauge of aginhg, it is not very accurate when used to predict a person's level of health, activity, or intellectual functioning. Any group of older persons will show great diversity. We must look beyond the number of years to find out how well we fun ction. Some people don't function well at age 60 while others are active at age 90. So, how old are you? A Gerontologist can answer that question.
As the oldest and largest school of gerontology in the world, the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology has a long tradition of forging new pathways in the field of aging. A multidisciplinary institution from its inception in 1975, the Davis School was built on the bedrock of excellence in aging research. Research in molecular biology, neuroscience, demography, psychology, sociology and public policy is conducted under the auspices of the Andrus Gerontology Center, founded in 1964.
The USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology and its research and services component, the USC Ethel Percy Andrus Gerontology Center, are improving the quality of life for older persons through research and education.
