Gesu parish

Gesu (pronounced "Jay-Zoo") Parish is a diverse community, consisting of an elementary school and church, in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Toledo that is named after the original Gesu Church in Rome which St. Ignatius Loyola began. It was originally founded by Jesuits, but it is now an Oblate parish.[1]

- 1920 - Bishop Schrembs assigned the boundaries of Gesu Parish in Toledo.
- 1921 - The first classrooms of Gesu School were formed and administered by the Sisters of Notre Dame.
- 1929 - Gesu School building was completed.
- 1949 - The convent was completed.
- 1950 - The Rectory was completed.
- 1998 - The Sullivan Center was completed.
- 2004 - The Oblates of St. Francis DeSales (O.S.F.S.) became the administrators of the parish.

Gesu's school colors are green and white. The school's mascot, the greyhound, has been used since the school opened.

Gesu-sponsored athletics are organized by the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), and include soccer, volleyball, football, cheerleading, baseball, softball, cross country, track and field, and basketball. To join the team, you must either go to Gesu School or belong to Gesu Parish.

Gesu has an Honors Choir and began producing yearly musicals in 2005.

Gesu has a Quiz Bowl team that competes against other Toledo-area Catholic elementary schools.

Since 2003, Gesu has opted not to elect a student council.

- Students must wear either a white button-down or a polo of either white, dark green, red, navy blue, or yellow.
- Boys must wear navy blue dress slacks.
- Girls must wear either navy blue dress slacks or a specific School Bell jumper (grades 1-4) or skirt (grades 5-8). The skirt/jumper cannot be more than 2 inches above the knee.
- Students must wear either dark black or dark brown dress shoes with a heel no higher than 1 inch.
- Students may also wear a navy blue "Gesu School" sweatshirt or a School Bells sweater of either dark green, red, navy blue, or yellow.
