Ghana International Airlines (GIA) is the newly designated (in 2005) national flag carrier of Ghana, replacing the defunct Ghana Airways that ceased operations in 2004.

The airline was set up in 2004 as a partnership between the Government of Ghana and a group of private international investors. An experienced team led by Ralph Atkin, founder of SkyWest in the United States was also installed. The management team also included the former CEO of Kenya Airways - Brian Presbury, as well as Albert Vitale, Sean Mendis and other experienced airline professionals.
Ghana International Airlines commenced operations on October 29, 2005 with daily flights between Accra and London Gatwick.
