From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Glenn Edward Hoffman (born July 7, 1958 in Orange, California) is a former shortstop in Major League Baseball and the current third base coach for the San Diego Padres. Previously, he was the third base coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and in 1998 he took over the managerial position for the final half of the season when Bill Russell was fired along with general manager Fred Claire. Hoffman was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the second round of the 1976 draft, and played primarily at shortstop for the Sox from 1980 to 1987, when he was traded to the Dodgers. In 1988, he signed as a free agent with the Red Sox, but injuries kept him sidelined for the entire season. In 1989, he signed with the California Angels, but was limited to 48 games. In 1991, he began his coaching career, and in 1998, he was hired by the Dodgers as their third base coach.
Glenn Hoffman is the older brother of Padres closer Trevor Hoffman.
