[edit] Mochigome
The usual Japanese type of rice is not mochigome. That is just called "kome" in Japanese. Altering accordingly.
- Yes, regular rice is called kome, or more specifically uruchimai. However, note this page is about glutinous rice. Mochigome is indeed the Japanese name for glutinous rice and thus should redirect here. The term "sticky rice" is somewhat ambiguous; I suggest this article be moved to glutinous rice, which is the more correct and unequivocal term, as some people refer to regular rice as "sticky rice". - Rice doesn't contain gluten, thus no form of rice can be correctly described as "glutinous rice". The normal Japanese rice is sticky, as is mochigome. Your revert is incorrect. --DannyWilde 00:04, 5 September 2005 (UTC)

- The word "glutinous", meaning glue-like or sticky comes from the Latin glūtinōsus. It does not refer to gluten content. You appear to be confusing the word with "glutenous". Glutinous rice is a specific term referring to rice having no (or negligible amounts of) amylose. --Dforest 00:30, 5 September 2005 (UTC)

- Thank you for your response. That kind of information belongs in the article. I'd suggest you put the info about amylose in, and move the article to an appropriate name, to avoid further confusion.

- I agree the article needs some work; it is on my to-do list. Please feel free to contribute, particularly if you're familiar with the Japanese traditions. --Dforest 01:44, 5 September 2005 (UTC)

- What about botan rice, is that the same as mochigome, or sushi rice, or something else? David Chiang 21:45, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

- If somebody is willing to put some work into it, having the scattered information on how GR is called in several languages in one box à la Tofu would be great, preferably with {{lang}} tags. Wikipeditor 13:46, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
