In 1972, the Chessie System Railroad owned GM50 (EMD GP40-2) and this special locomotive was painted gold to celebrate General Motors 50th anniversary as a diesel locomotive maker. This locomotive shown is an HO Scale replica that Athearn made as a special edition (all sold out), and some (like this one) are custom painted. In 1984, GM50 was repainted into the standard Chessie System colors and given the number 4164. Today, GM50 is still working as a CSXT unit with number 6063, and she will be retired to be repainted as GM50. Jason Trew Photo copyright 2005.
