[edit] History
During the famous war of Ramayana in Treta Yug Ravana pleased Lord Shiva through his penace. Pleased by him, Lord Shiva directed him to install a Shiva-ling in Lanka so that he could win the war. But Lord Shiva put a condition that Shiv-Ling should not be put on land. On the way back Ravana left the Shiva-ling with a shepherd to attend nature's call. Shiva increased his weight so that shepherd was not able to bear Shiv-ling's weight and put it on the land. The Shiva-ling got installed there. On coming back, Ravana got very angry because he understood that Shiva did not want the Shiva-ling to be installed in Lanka and let him win the war. And so he pressed the ling with his thumb. The ling took the shape of human ear. It is on this basis that the place was called Gola Gokaran Nath.
