Governador Island

Governador Island (Ilha do Governador, in Portuguese) is a large island in the Bay of Guanabara in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.It has a population of about 450,000 inhabitants in a small area of 42 sq. km . The main airport of Rio, Galeão - Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport, is in Governador Island.
Ilha, how is mostly known by cariocas (inhabitants of Rio city), has lots of favelas, as Morro do Dendê, the biggest one.

People from Governador Island suffer with the high polution of Bay of Guanabara. Rio's govern has been promissing a dispolution for years, but nothing has been done thus far. However, the poorest inhabitants of the region are always inside the unacceptable water, in spite of complaining about the situation.
