In chess, D83 is the ECO code for the Grünfeld Gambit chess opening. Play in this opening is on the queenside and generally lively.
The game begins 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 d5 4.Bf4 Bg7 5.e3 O-O. Black sets up the gambit in the D83 and White declines. White continues most often with Qb3 or Rc1.
Characteristic for Black is the ...c5 counter-thrust or the defensive ...c6.
