Graduand
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Graduand is often defined as: "A person who has completed the requirements for a degree but has not yet had the degree conferred."
A search in older editions of The Shorter Oxford, Webster’s Collegiate and other respected dictionaries does not yield this word, so it seems to have a recent or regional source. One suggestion is that "graduand" originated in Scotland.
There is certainly a need for such a word to describe qualified, embryonic graduates and it seems possible that U.S. sources provided or resurrected "graduand" into current usage.
