Graham Spiers
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Graham Spiers is a Scottish Sports Journalist who is soon to be writing for the newspaper The Times in Scotland, having recently left The Herald. He is also a regular on the Scottish television football highlights show Scotsport, shown on stv.
Spiers' refined Scottish accent coupled with his highbrow views on Scotland's national game has resulted in him receiving ridicule from some sections of the public, media and also parody shows (e.g. Only an Excuse?). He has also been looked upon in some quarters as being too middle-class to be a commentator on what remains a pastime entrenched in Scottish working-class identity.[citation needed] The latter might merely be a problem with popular Scottish footballing culture rather than Spiers himself.
Spiers has won Scotland's Sports Journalist of the Year award three times. His favorite classical musician is the composer Bach.[citation needed] Enjoys eating Twinkies and drinking Coca Cola.[citation needed]. His favorite modern musician is Elton John, whose songs he often references in his reviews.
