[edit] Granada Notable Graduates

  • "Granada's Best and Brightest"/Notable Graduates include:
  • list omitted

Can anyone tell us why each of these people is notable if they don't have Wikipedia articles? Thanks, -Willmcw 03:12, Jun 19, 2005 (UTC)

Catherine Chou is on the list of great alums of Granada Hills because she received numerous awards at graduation for being the best math, English, science, history, and overall student in the class of 2002. She is currently finishing off her college career at Princeton University where she has earned the honor of being a Shapiro Scholar. She also enjoys singing and playing the piano. Catherine dreams about being a M uppet and making many people happy with her smile and silliness.

That's wonderful. When she's sold her first 10,000 albums or other wise established her notability then I look forward to there being an article about her. Meawhile, I'm going to de-link these fine, but not-yet-notable, folks. -Willmcw 07:17, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Limekiln Canyon Park vs O'Melveny Park

I think the editor who describes Limekiln Canyon Park as "more rustic" than O'Melveny is familiar only with the relatively small portion of O'Melveny that's just above Bee Canyon Park, off Sesnon. Most of O'Melveny is undeveloped. By way of comparison, it's the second largest park in Los Angeles, behind Griffith Park. Check out the Google map.

I'm not aware of any easy access from Limekiln to Mission Point, and I can't see any on Google's aerial photos or on the topo map. The main access (the Mario DeCampos Memorial Trail, off Neon) is through O'Melveny. It looks like any access from Limekiln would have to be through the oil field.

I don't have an authoritative source defining LCP, but the Google, Yahoo, and Thomas Brothers maps show it as extending from Rinaldi to Sesnon, just west of Tampa. Perhaps the previous editor was thinking of Limekiln Canyon above the formal park.

I'm not sure, but I think LCP is part of Porter Ranch rather than Granada Hills. Some web references give a Northridge address. (That address is, interestingly, in the canyon above the formal park as shown on the maps, near what appears to be part of the oil field.)

I'll do some more research and see if I can improve the article a bit. Jordan Brown 07:03, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Where to put notable graduates?

We have notable graduates both in the schools section and in the famous people section, with some (but not complete) duplication. It seems to me like they should go in one place or the other, but not both.

Thoughts?

Jordan Brown 23:35, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

All of the info about the schools should be moved to those articles. -Will Beback · · 23:59, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
I agree, so I've done that. I left the stadium information here, because the Quakes involvement makes it interesting independent of the school.
That's at least removed the duplication on this page but it leaves duplication between the "notable people" section here and the "notable alumni" sections on the two schools. I don't like the duplication, but it seems like the information is interesting in both places. Maybe the right answer is to have the section here be "notable people born in GH" and have a See Also note that points at the schools' pages for alumni.
Jordan Brown 01:16, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for that work. Is there a maternity hopsital in GH? This is always a sticky issue. "Notable natives" implies those who were raised, if not born in the area. "Notable residents" is a frequently used formula which is more vague about the connection. -Will Beback · · 01:32, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Ooh, good point. I don't know for sure. There used to be a hospital, but I think it's closed now. Don't know whether it did deliveries.
However, note that the article currently says "from Granada Hills"; it doesn't refer to birth. That seems adequately vague.

[edit] Famous People from Granada Hills

Come on, no more atheletes in this section. Round it out with people involved in other fields. Eugeneacurry 16:36, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately, you only find large quantities of famous people in acting and sports... maybe politics. Here's a Google search for IMDB entries that mention GH... I think Gooding and Judd were the only two names I recognized.
I've been mulling how much biographical information is appropriate here. I don't think team affiliations are really needed - once you have the fact that you're talking about an athlete and what sport, you can probably figure out whether this is the person you're thinking of. If you want further information, their personal article is only a click away. Thoughts?

[edit] Mission Point / Peak

The official name of the geographic feature is Mission Point. Ref the USGS Oat Mountain topo map. Including an alternative name seems fine, but let's keep the official one as the primary reference. (Omitting alternative names is OK too.) Jordan Brown 23:58, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
