Great Lakes (band)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Great Lakes is an American indie rock band originally from Athens, GA, loosely affiliated historically with the Elephant Six Collective. They are currently based in New York.
The group is centered around the songwriting partnership of Dan Donahue] and Ben Crum. Their early live shows, however, saw the lineup grow to include members of Of Montreal, Elf Power, and Neutral Milk Hotel. Though still involved in the songwriting, Donahue no longer performs with the band. They currently play as a 3-piece--with Crum on guitar, Kyle Forrester (also of The Ladybug Transistor) on bass, and one of a couple different drummers. Crum also currently plays guitar with The Ladybug Transistor, and has played bass, both live and on record, with The Essex Green.
Great Lakes released their self-titled debut album in 2000 on Kindercore Records, which was preceded by a 7" single on Happy Happy Birthday to Me. After releasing a number of other singles, including a split with Elf Power, they released their second album, The Distance Between, on Orange Twin in 2002. Their third and most recent album, Diamond Times, came out in 2006 on Empyrean Records.
