Green bean casserole
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Green bean casserole is a Casserole consisting of green beans, Cream of mushroom soup and french fried onions. The recipe may also call for black pepper and/or soy sauce.
Green bean casserole was invented in 1955 by the Campbell Soup Company test kitchen under the leadership of Doris Reilly. Their goal was to come up with simple recipes using Campbell's products to promote the use and increased purchase of the company's products. It has since become a Thanksgiving favorite in the United States. Green bean casserole however can be made with any brand of canned Cream of mushroom soup available.
In 2002 Doris Reilly presented the Inventors Hall of Fame in Akron, Ohio the original recipe card.
