Greensgrow Farm
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Greensgrow Farms is a farm practicing urban agriculture in the city of Philadelphia. Greensgrow is a 501 C-3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to “grow food, flowers, and neighborhoods.” Located on a revitalized brownfield site in the Kensington area of the city, it is a center of environmental and community activism. Founded in 1997 by Mary Seton Corboy and Tom Sereduk, the farm sells fresh produce to local residents and restaurants. The farm itself has three ways of bridging the gap between rural farms and urbanite living. The City Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program offers local produce to many residents of Philadelphia, while a Farmstand sells local fresh vegetables, fruit, meat, cheese, and dairy. While the farm does not practice exclusively organic procedures, it does not use chemical herbicides or pesticides and instead maintains sustainable growing methods. The nursery offers ornamentals, various shrubs and tropicals, soils, mulch and compost. Greensgrow Farms is in its 10th season creatively bringing people and environment together in the city through a green organization with a social conscience.
