==Bakers Oven no longer exists?==
Is Greggs in the process of phasing out the Bakers Oven brand name? The Bakers Oven store I normally go to has been rebranded as Greggs (unfortunately doing away with the sit-in cafe, and replacing the nice Bakers Oven sandwiches with Greggs' not-quite-so-nice versions). 217.34.39.123 12:13, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Some Bakers Oven stores were shutdown, some were converted to Greggs take-away and some to Greggs cafeterias(an example is the former Bakers Oven in Ripon). Bakers Oven North was rationalised and the stores distributed amongst other Greggs divisions. No citation I'm afraid, but I work for Greggs so it can be relied upon. [edit] "Pasties"
Did the original contributor mean to type "pastries"?
I'm sure that the Greggs products called "Steak Bake", "Chicken Bake", and "Sausage and Bean Melt" are not pasties, strictly speaking, as they do not contain potato. 217.155.20.163 22:01, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
Pasties do not have to contain potato, although the traditional Cornish Pasty recipe includes it. Greggs refer to the D shaped Cornish as a pasty, but the others are generally referred to departmentally as Savouries. ZuffleZipperfish 10:54, 27 January 2007 (UTC).
[edit] Newcastle section
The list of branches given here is outdated and inaccurate. More Greggs outlets have opened in central Newcastle since the list was compiled, and some of the locations listed (e.g. Shields Road) are not in central Newcastle at all.
Anyway, is it really worth having the list in the article - I'd say that only really notable branch is the one in Gosforth High Street, as that is the street where John Gregg first set up shop in the 1930s. (I'm not 100% sure if the current Greggs shop is Gregg's original one.) AdorableRuffian 15:23, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Eating/Thurstons
In West Yorkshire at least, I remember there didn't used to be any Greggs - all the shops were called 'Thurstons', but the layout of the shops, the logo design, and the packaging were all the same. The food wasn't as standardised though. I presume that Thurstons must have been taken over or something, but does anyone have any more information?
Secondly, the Eating section sounds like complete nonsense and is unsourced. If no one can defend it on here then I'll remove it... Xzamuel 19:44, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
I regularly visit the Bakers oven in Clydebank. It has been taken over by Greggs and the sitting area still remains!!!
