Griffits

Griffits was partial slavic dynasty of dukes that ruled Pomerania from the 12th century until 1637. They were a part of the Holy Roman Empire. The name was used since the XV century and had been taken from the Griffin coat of arms, that was used by Pomeranian dukes since 1214.
There are not many sources about first ancestors of the dynasty, what we know for sure is that they had a Slavic roots. Some sources say that the family belonged to Polish kings Piast dynasty, other point Gdańsk rulers - the Sobiesławice dynasty as roots of Griffits.
Warcisław I - vassal of King of Poland Bolesław III is first known non-legendary member of the family.
