Grupo Aeromóvil de Fuerzas Especiales del Alto Mando

The Grupo Aeromóvil de Fuerzas Especiales del Alto Mando (High Command Special Forces Airmobile Group) is a special operations unit of the Mexican Army. Its a group with no more than 100 members, they are specially trained in counter-terrorist tactics. They are carefully selected from the Mexican Army Special Forces Corps. Its mission is to carry out the most delicate operations ordered directly by the Secretary of National Defense. Due to its secrecy, very little is known about them. One of the few times they were seen in public was hours after the successful capture of Osiel Cardenas in 2003, one of the most wanted drug cartel leaders in Mexico and the United States by then, as they arrived in Mexico City.
Another known mission carried out by the High Command GAFE group was the capture of drug cartel leader Javier Torres Félix aka El JT in Culiacan, Sinaloa. January 27th of 2004. They were sent from Mexico City to Culiacan at 9:00am and returned with him at 6:00 pm that same day. Previous intelligence was gathered and a certain day was scheduled for his arrest, however, the secretary said to reporters that he decided his immediate capture before schedule due to the death of an army soldier of the Third militay region who was killed by one of his hitman while he and his comrades were patrolling the outskirts of a town called EL TULE.
