The GSV Bora Horza Gobuchul is a General Systems Vehicle belonging to the fictional society The Culture. It appears in the novel Consider Phlebas and is named after another character in that novel, the changer Bora Horza Gobuchul.
The Mind was produced early during the Idiran-Culture War. The factory craft that produced it was under threat of attack and pressed for time, so the Mind's original ship was a hodge-podge of components scraped together to give the Mind a chance to escape. This craft traveled safely for some time through Idiran space, but before it could reach Culture space was attacked by an Idiran fleet. The vessel was destroyed, but the Mind managed to escape to a nearby planet known as Schar's World. Schar's World was a "Planet of the Dead", a world designated as a memorial to death by one of the Sublimed.
Undaunted, the Idirans sent their operative Bora Horza Gobuchul, a former caretaker of Schar's World, to find and recover the Mind. Accompanied by a captured Culture agent, Perosteck Balveda, and a small band of pirates, Horza was able to retrieve the Mind from a system of tunnels beneath the surface of the planet. However, in the process, Horza lost his life and, contrary to his aims, the Mind was rescued by the Culture.
After its recovery from Schar's World, the Mind was installed into an Ocean Class GSV, and took part in many important battles during the war. After the conflict, it was moved to a Range Class GSV.
