Gunns Plains
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gunns Plains is located 20km (a 25min drive) south of Ulverstone on the north-west coast of Tasmania.
This small valley has a population of approximately 300. The Leven river winds slowly through its pristine pastures that support a variety of grazing stock. Agricultural endeavours are also very successful, benefiting from rich red volcanic soil.
The Valley has one vineyard that produces some excellent Pinot and Chardonnay. However, the main attraction in Gunns Plains are the amazing limestone caves of which over one hundred and fifty have been discovered. The second largest known, the remarkable Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service administered Gunns Plains Cave opens to the public with daily tours, so everybody can experience some of the most beautiful underground limestone formations in Australia.
