Guy O. Burns Middle School was opened in 1986 at 615 Brooker Road in Brandon, Florida.
The school is named in honor of Guy O. Burns, a World War I veteran, known as “Pop” Burns, a Hillsborough County, Florida educator, coach and assistant principal.
The school colors are navy blue, white and maroon.
The school mascot is the Bruin.
The current principal is Mrs. Brenda Nolte. There are three assistant principals, one for each grade.
Burns's eighth grade class of 2005-2006 tied for first place in Hillsborough County for Florida Comprehensive Assesment Test (FCAT) writing scores with a 4.7 out of 6.0 average.
Burns offers five sports. Students can participate in basketball in the first quarter, Track and field in the second, soccer in the third, and flag football (boys), or volleyball (girls) in the fourth.
Burns also has one of, if not the best, Math League programs. They have won the county championship for the past two years, and are preparing to take home the third straight trophy.
