From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I enjoy browsing Wikipedia, where my contributions so far have been primarily comments on Talk pages, a few editorial contributions, and some anti-vandalism activity. One comment I frequently hear in my science classes (particulary from instructors) is that Wikipedia is not a reliable academic source. I understand that point of view; the very nature of a Wiki makes them susceptible to vandalism, abuse, and inaccuracy. But my response to these detractors is to point out that it is a work in progress that constantly strives to improve its credibility, and that rather than complaining of inaccuracies and shrugging it off, perhaps their energies might be better utilized in helping to improve Wikipedia.
That, at least, is what I hope to do.
