Hair of the Dog Brewing Company is an American microbrewery based in Portland, Oregon.
Hair of the Dog is known for its unusual beersand its devotion to traditional craft-brewing techniques. Several of its beers are bottle conditioned. The brewery's Adam beer is a recreation of an Adambier, a historic brew that was originally made in Dortmund, Germany. Rich in flavor, Adam is best served as a dessert beer. It has 10 percent ABV.
The brewery's claim to worldwide fame was its barley wine Dave, which was among the strongest beers ever brewed, at 29 percent ABV. The high alcohol level was achieved by repeated freezing and removal of the frozen water. Dave is no longer brewed.
Their most recent "must have" beer is Fred from the Wood, which is their normal version of Fred that is aged for six-months in American Oak casks. This was done with Fred batch #64 and released in summer of 2006, and had been done several years previously with a different batch.
