Halfbridled is a dark bay or brown thoroughbred filly bred by Wertheimer et Frère in Kentucky. She was foaled on February 2, 2001.
Following a victorious debut in a Maiden Special Weight race at [[Del Mar Racetrack], Halfbridled contested the Grade I Del Mar Debutante Stakes where she defeated five opponents including Hollywood Story and Victory USA. She then went to the prestigious Breeders' Cup prep race, the 1 1/16th miles Grade II Oak Leaf Stakes at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. In the Oak Leaf she faced six others including Hollywood Story again.[1]
Entering the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies undefeated, Halfbridled went to the gate on October 25, 2003 as the 2-1 favorite in a field of fourteen. She drew the furthest post from the rail, #14. She devoured the field in classic style under her usual jockey, Hall of Fame rider Julie Krone.[2]
After this event Halfbridled won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding 2-Year-Old Filly. Some speculated the she was a likely favorite for the Triple Tiara.
