Hall Cross School was founded in 1986. It is a Science and Mathematics Secondary College split on two sites, with the Upper School located in the centre of Doncaster (Town Fields area) and the Lower School in Bessacarr. The total number of pupils who attend the school is 2104. It features as an intergral part in the community, providing access to facilities for many primary schools, which also form part of its large catchment area.
Hall Cross has a rich and diverse history. The Upper School is a Grade 2 listed building along with the library, which used to be a church. There has been a school on the site since 1350, making it older than Eton. The Upper School site was originally Doncaster Boys Grammar School. However, it has been a comprehensive school for some years. The head of the upper school is currently Mr Douglass.
The Lower School was originaly Ellers High School, then Ellers Middle School. As part of reorganisation of the school system in the early 1990s, it became part of Hall Cross. The head of the Lower School is currently Mr Cattrall.
The current headteacher is Kevin Jones. The school has a newly appointed executive head Dr. Kelvin Simmonds, headteacher of Doncaster Danum, after getting a Notice to Improve as a result of a recent Ofsted inspection [1]. The deputy heads are Mrs Jackson and Mr Watts.
