"Hammer Horror" was Kate Bush's third single release and first single from her second album Lionheart. Bush has often expressed her disatisfaction with the album because she feels it was rushed by EMI.
"Hammer Horror" was released on October 27, 1978 and hit number 44 in the UK Singles Chart. The song gained a moderate amount of radio airplay at the time.
The song is a tribute to Hammer Films a film company whose specialty was horror movies. The story is the song is about an actor who gets thrust into the lead role of The Hunchback of Notre Dame upon the untimely death of a friend and ends up being haunted by the jealous decedent.
The B-side of the song was "Coffee Homeground" which also featured on Lionheart.
