[edit] Re-building
In the last several years the school buildings have been sold to Galiford Try, a company which specialises in re-building schools to profit financially from them in the long term.
In the new building works large areas of the old school were destroyed and much of the teaching was conducted in temporary portable cabins. In January 2006 the building work was completed, and the new school completely opened. The general opinion of staff and pupils is that the building was of poor quality. However, any new buildings were a welcome improvement over the temporary portable cabins. In November 2006 the school was officially opened by the Queen, who instead visited the nearby Samuel Whitbread Community College.
[edit] Specialist Status
In 2006 the school gained Specialist Science College Status
