Harnoko Dewantono (nickname "Oki") murdered 3 business associates in Los Angeles between August 1991 and November 1992, including his own brother and Gina Sutan Aswar, a famous fellow Indonesian heiress when they did not go along with his business plans. He had stored their bodies in locked refrigerated chests in a storage unit for years before he defaulted on the payments on the unit and the bodies were discovered when employees were cleaning the unit out. Revealing his address in Jakarta when he tried to make the missed payments on ths units, Dewantono was arrested and tried for the murders. He admitted to shooting them and was found guilty of the murders by an Indonesian court and sentenced to death by firing squad on May 13, 1997. In his decision, the judge stated that the fact that Dewantono had "damaged the reputation of Indonesia" warranted the strong penalty in a country where murderers routinely got less than five year prison terms at the time.
