Harry Mazer is an author for children and young adults, acclaimed for his “realistic” novels. He has written twenty-two novels, including The Solid Gold Kid, Heroes Don't Run and Snow Bound, as well as one work of poetry and a few short stories [1]. As a WWII veteran, he has written quite a few historical fiction books, one which is A Boy at War. Three of his books were co-authored by his wife, Norma. He has won several awards, including The Knickerbocker Award by the New York State Library Association (2001) and The ALAN Award for Contributions to Young Adult Literature (2003).

Harry Mazer was born on May 31, 1925 in New York, NY. He went to the Union College for his BA in 1948. In 1950-55 he was a railroad brakeman and switchtender for New York Central. He was an English teacher in New York at the Central Square School for a year, in 1959. He currently resides in Queens, NY.
