Haus der Kulturen der Welt
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Haus der Kulturen der Welt ("House of World Cultures") is an art institution presenting exhibitions, theater and dance performances, concerts, author readings, films and congresses on non-European art and culture.
The House of World Cultures is one of the few institutions which, due to their national and international standing and the quality of their work, receive funding from the federal government as so-called "lighthouses of culture." The House of World Cultures is located in Berlin in a building formerly known as the "Kongresshalle." The building, which was designed by the American architect Hugh Stubbins Jr., is also known as the "Schwangere Auster" ("pregnant oyster"). The building is in the Tiergarten and a direct neighbour of the Carillon in Berlin-Tiergarten and the Chancellery.
The House is briefly featured in the 2005 science fiction movie Aeon Flux.
