The Havoc is a fictional vehicle from the Star Wars Expanded Universe. The Havoc is currently owned by Nym, the Feeorin leader of the Lok Revenants. Nym stole the ship and modified it. Now outfited with dual-triple laser cannons, an automatic rotating turret and five variations of bombs. The Havoc is one of the most deadly starships in the outer rim. The Havoc is the second featured craft in both of the "Star Wars: Starfighter" games.

[edit] Creation

The Havoc was originally designed by a Bith named Jinkins, an engineer who worked for the Nubian Design Collective a few years prior to the Battle of Naboo. The Collective dubbed the bomber, (in its prototype stages), the"Scurrg H-6". They tried to sell the line of bombers to the Royal Naboo Security Corps Forces, (as an attempt to convince them to buy other weapons). However, the Naboo, being dedicated pacifists, rejected the heavily-armed bomber. Funding for the project soon ran dry. The prototype was put into storage, and abandoned.

Jinkins, irritated and annoyed, sought out Nym. He became one of the first Lok Revenants. Jinkins and Nym eventually broke into the storage facility, stole the prototype, and renamed it "Havoc". The name remains to this day.

[edit] Specifications

The Havoc is one of the most unusual starfighters or bombers in existence. This is in part due to its capabilities, and in part because of its design. Rather than the expected sleek curves, smooth surfaces, refined slopes, and chrome plating, the Havoc is a fairly unassuming, almost plain ship.

The Havoc is comprised of angled slopes painted dark and light grays, with occasional stripes of bright red. The cockpit viewport is made up of square windows. Unlike most Nubian craft, that use small engines to burn less fuel and help lower pollution levels, the Havoc's dual engines take up most of the fighter's stern. They propel the craft at an impressive 1.5x lightspeed rating (2,730 G), and more than 1,000 km/h in the atmosphere.

What makes the Havoc so unique is its amount of easily-controlled, onboard weapons. As of the Battle of Geonosis, the Havoc's primary weapons were 6 fire-linked, forward firing laser cannons. Each cannon is mounted on the wingspan to create the widest range of firing arcs possible. Mounted in the middle of the fighter's top is a double-laser cannon turret, able to rotate 360 degrees horizontally and roughly 90 degrees vertically. In firefights, it is usually manned by another Lok Revenant, but it can be locked into place and coordinated with the Havoc's forward cannons. Compared to the Havoc's six cannons, the turret is much weaker and is only useful for targeting smaller objects, such as infantry or droid starfighters. Alone, those weapons would have made the Havoc the most heavily-armed fighter in the galaxy if one forgets the Havoc was made primarily as a bomber, not a fighter.

The Havoc was one of the first starfighters to utilize "Energy Bombs". These are warheads created by syphoning power directly from the power supply and turning into it devastating projectiles. The technology was highly experimental, and originally, the Havoc used standard proton bombs instead. Preassumbly, having to resupply the Havoc with proton bombs became too difficult and expensive in the long run, and Nym added the new technology to his personal ship. The device takes a small portion of energy and forms into a blue sphere that resembles a proton bomb aesthetically. The device can create up to 10 energy bombs at once, since the device is rigged to the proton bomb launchers-each of which can carry a maximum of 5 bombs each. After using up the 10 bombs, the generator recharges, and produces more (so, in essence, the ship has an indefinite supply). The generator is easy to modify and remove. Six years after the Battle of Naboo, Nym would mount the device into a dual-laser cannon turret on a luxury pleasure boat, in order to fight the Trade Federation in the Maramere system (not permanently though). Energy Bombs are exetremely unstable, and one bomb is enough to melt entire tanks into rubble. They create a tremendous amount of splash damage, decimating surrounding craft. A full magazine (10 bombs) is enough to single-handly destroy a Trade Federation Missile Frigate.

The Havoc used the previously mentioned weapons during its early career as a raid-bomber, and proved very effective in disabling key components in Trade Federation freighters and bulk cruisers. This inspired the Trade Federation to arm its cargo vessels, and many transports were modified to include 2 double turbolaser turrets to combat pirates like the Lok Revenants. The Trade Federation also started producing Missile Frigates to combat pirate capital ships (of which the Lok Revenants had none save several stolen freighters). In order to combat these advances, Nym, Jinkins, Kole, Reti, and many Lok Revenants did their part to modify the Havoc all over again. By the time of the Battle of Geonosis, the Havoc, in addition to the weapons mentioned previously, had a cruise-missile launcher capable of storing 5 missiles. Cruise missiles are typically land-based projectiles that are so big that they usually are reserved for capital ships. 1 Cruise missile is usually enough to destroy any mid-sized freighter, troop transport, or cargo vessel. Nym also added a magazine of 10 Cluster Missiles, special projectiles that launch from a pod, sending bright yellow clusters of small missiles at an enemy ship. The clusters are ionized, allowing them to bypass normal shields and directly impact a ship's hull. A volley of clusters could easily take out half a squadron of starfighters if aimed into an unsuspecting group. Finally, 10 proximity mines rounded out the arsenal of the Havoc. Each mine could be deployed into space or on a planet, set into the ground or dropped on a ship, or simply placed in mid-air. The mines were useful but did not provide any significant adavantage over the other weapons, and were seldom used.

The Havoc, when first designed, was never intended to be flown solo. The onboard computers, systems, and various weapons would be too stressful during combat. The Havoc was intended to manned by a crew of 5. A pilot, a turret gunner, a navigator, a co-pilot to fire the secondary bombs, and a demolition specialist were all needed. In order for Nym to be able to fly the fighter alone or with a turret gunner, Jinkins gave each weapon system its own targeting system, allowing Nym to switch between weapons at will. 2 astromech droids were also housed inside to provide additional support.

[edit] History

The Havoc and her crew played a role in many important conflicts, large and small. During the Battle of Naboo, the Havoc, piloted by Nym, with only 1 other starfighter as a wingmate, demolished an entire third of the Trade Federation's invasion force. This was a critical blow to the Trade Federation. As a reward, Nym was pardoned by Palpatine for his past crimes, but he remained a pirate and in command of his loyal Lok Revenants.

In the time between the Battle of Naboo and the Battle of Geonosis, the Lok Revenants ran into numerous encounters with the Trade Federation, and the mercenary group was torn apart by captures and losses. Nym, Jinkins, and Reti, were holed up in the Maramere system, (where the Havoc remained until a Jedi Master by the name of Adi Gallia was sent by the Jedi Council to investigate). This opened up another series of adventures for Nym that would lead right to the start of the Clone Wars.

The Battle of Geonosis was the last well-known conflict the Havoc played a major role in. During the space battle above the planet, Nym sent a distress message to Adi Gallia, warning her that Captain Cavik Toth was bringing a Hex-Missile strike force to attack the Republic Clone Army on Geonosis from behind and above. After Adi destroyed Toth's missile transports, Toth showed up with 3 massive Sabaoth Destroyers and hundreds of starfighters. With her own Jedi Starfighter's weapons too weak to penetrate the thick shields and armor of the destroyers, she called on Nym for assistance, or as Nym put it: "This is vengeance, Adi... plain and simple". Bringing not only the Havoc, he showed up with the Lok Revenant's secret weapon- 3 completely redone Mere Resistance cruisers decked out with heavy turbolasers and experimental anti-capital ship weapons. Needless to say, Nym's forces quickly destroyed the fleet, and although the Havoc was disabled in the firefight, the Revenants suffered no casualties.

Although records are somewhat sketchy, it is widely accepted that Nym and the Havoc did not fight alongside the Republic in the Clone Wars. Although Adi tagged along with the Lok Revenants and Nym was given control of his home planet of Lok, Nym and his mercenaries did not participate in any battles, although he provided a good source of information regarding criminals and taught Republic security forces how to catch pirates and other forms of scum.

Nym and his band survived into the Galactic Civil War, along with the Havoc. The Lok Revenants were heavy Rebel supporters, and Nym has helped many pilots who have crashed onto Lok's surface find there way home again. Because Lok is such a back-water world, devoid of any valuable ores, the Empire has left it alone for the most part, with the exception of some small research facilities on the opposite side of the planet to Nym's stronghold. On occasion, Imperial shipping passes over Lok, and the Havoc still excels at hitting Imperial transports, just like it did against the Trade Federation many years ago.
