Hazratbal shrine in Kashmir
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hazratbal is a shrine on the Dal Lake in Kashmir which houses an ancient relic which is believed by many to be a strand of Muhammad's hair. The name Hazratbal comes from the Urdu title, meaning "sir" with which the Prophet is referred to (Hazrat) and Bal, which is the Urdu/Hindi word for hair.
The shrine is made of marble which is reflected on the waters of the Dal lake on a pleasant, bright day.
The town of Hazratbal takes its name from the shrine.
