Hebrew Academy of Tidewater
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Hebrew Academy of Tidewater, located in Tidewater, Virginia, is a dual curriculum school that was founded in 1955. It spans from preschool to 8th grade. It is a school designed specifically to teach Jewish youth of their people, language, and many other things. It teaches Judaic, as well as general studies. Over the years, the school has had problems due to the fluctuating number of students. Off and on the school has had a middle school. In the 2007-2008 school year, the school will not have a middle School. The school also helps its students prepare for their Bar and Bat mitzvahs; teaching us to read and write Hebrew as well as to understand the grammar and words. Students learn a great amount of both general and Judaic studies, and we still have the time to participate in such subjects as P.E., music, art, health education and others. The school has small classes, promoting one on one time with teachers and so students get to know one another well.
[edit] Sports
Hebrew Academy of Tidewater has a great sports program. It has many sports teams, including those of basketball, soccer, tennis, and softball. Usually there is a girl team and boy team, but due to low student enrollments in the middle school, there are now coed tennis, soccer and softball teams. All students who try out are put on a team, as to not hurt anyone. As of 2006, HAT has won a girls and a boys basketball championship.
[edit] Recent School changes
Due to many reasons, HAT will not have a middle school next year, but will go up to 6th grade. This change will affect the sports program very much, and is very saddening. Many people are upset, but financial reasons are enough to close it. HAT is also in the process of changing its programs, faculty, and objectives.
