HERONIMO SEHMI- [[ACTOR]] Performing Arts
Heronimo sehmi was born in Nairobi Kenya in 1947-from a very early age he decided that the name given to him at birth carried too much weight- Gurchran- meaning god's feet.At about the age of 6yrs he started calling himself geronimo after having watched a movie by the same title- it was also at this stage of his life that he became convinced that he was going into theatre when he was older- in fact his first professional work in London- The CandleStickMaker in St. Martins Lane Theatre - he was credited as just Geronimo- later he included his surname Sehmi-it has northern indian roots but can also be linked to the hebrew word shemi.But confusion was still present when he went to auditions most casting directors assuming him to be Native American- to rectify this he changed his name once again this time to Heronimo Sehmi- less confusion- more work. Heronimo has worked selectively over the years- never seeking fame or fortune- work includes The Ecstasy of Rita Joe 'playing The Shaman,young indian- The Hampstead Theatre in London-working with Robert Beatty, Don Fellowes and Tobi Robins- music for production was by Julie Felix- directed by Nicholas Renton. The Fluer's O Edinburgh- playing Siva- play was directed by Bill Bryden @ The Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh. Bill Bryden a great British theatre director. The Measures Taken & The Exception & the Rule by Brecht playing Cooli & Control Chorus- directed by Willy Prentiss & Chris Johnstone- this was one of first productions @ The Globe Marquee-later becoming known as Sam Wanamakers The Globe Theatre, South Bank, London- also played @ The Roundhouse Camden his other work includes " Sometimes in April"- story of the Rwanda Genocide- HBO. The Way of the World by Congrieve @ Unity Theatre London playing Petulant-directed by Tess Gorringe. The Priest in "The National Health"-directed by Christopher Dunham- The Palace Theatre Westcliff-on-Sea. Lucky in the production of "Waiting for Godot" directed by Ronald Andrews- Edinburgh Fesival. played Lynx Eye and Partridge Eye in "The Wind in the Sassafras Trees by Galton & Simpson- directed by Geoffrey Reed- Sandown Pavillion.I.O.W. played "Maugrim the Wolf" in a critically acclaimed production of "The Lion The Witch & The Wardrobe"- The Half Moon Theatre -Bethnel Green London- directed by Stuart Mungall. worked with some notable actors in "Our Own People"- Dino Shafeek from Mind Your Language, It An't Half Hot-Mum,also Art Malik before he rocketed to fame,David Yip-The Chinese Detective.-directed by Madhav Sharma. trained with The Unity Theatre-Stageworks-three years,RADA one year-Arts Council bursary, Morley College and London Film School. some notable famous people worked with include-Carrol Baker- Gaint- in the play- Rain by Somerset Maughan,Diana Rigg, Maggie Smith, Susan Hampshire and John Thaw in ""Night & Day- Stoppard. Pheonix Theatre London producer of short award winning film "The Runner" also directs and writes founding member of Harmony Theatre Company Brixton Sassafras Theatre Company London
