High Brooms railway station serves High Brooms a suburb, on the northern side of Tunbridge Wells in Kent.
High Brooms was originally opened in 1893 as Southborough by the South Eastern Railway: it acquired its present name in 1925. It is situated on the five-mile gradient from Tonbridge: its main station buildings are on the northbound platform. There is a closed up waiting room on the southbound platform.
The station and the majority of trains serving it are operated by Southeastern, although the Tunbridge Wells to Horsham services are operated by Southern. High Brooms is on the Hastings Line.
The typical services from this station are:
- 2 trains per hour (tph) to Charing Cross
- 2 tph to Hastings (one semi-fast, one slow)
- 2 tph to Tunbridge Wells
- 1 tph to Horsham (via Redhill)
- 1 tph to London Bridge (also via Redhill)
there are also some peak only services to and from Cannon Street.
Access to the southbound platform is via stairs and access to the northbound platform is at street level. A subway links the two platforms.
Recently (Feb 2006) there have been slight proposals to change the name of the station to "Tunbridge Wells North" to reflect it's growing importance and to make its location much clearer to visitors.
