[edit] Highland’s Historical Church
The church known currently as Community Cross A Church of the Nazarene was originally built in 1886 for the Congregational Church. The church lot was donated by William Law Praix, Joseph Tyler and Charles Tyler. It was located on the corner of Church Street and Base Line. The original church was 20 feet by 30 feet and had a very tall steeple.
With the completion of the railroad through Highland, most businesses chose to open further north. So, the church purchased a lot on the corner of Palm Avenue and Main Street for $600.00. The building was moved to its current location in 1896. In 1901, the kerosene lamps that had been previously used were replaced with electricity.
The Congregational Church purchased a new building at Palm Avenue at Atlantic Street and moved out in 1963. In 1963, when the Congregational Church moved out, the Church of the Nazarene purchased the original church building. The Church of the Nazarene named the building, Highland Church of the Nazarene, it is now known as Community Cross A Church of the Nazarene.
