To answer the above (14 months later), it puts a branch of the county courthouse in each. Counties are unimportant in New Hampshire, compared to many states; they have little function, and no territory of their own.
Also, I have differentiated the notes of "East Merrimack," a term which nobody in this area ever uses, and "Pinardville," which is still used informally, as if it were an incorporated community of its own. As you can guess, I live in that part of the county. - DavidWBrooks 16:21, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)
