Hip Pop R&B
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hip Pop & R&B is a musical genre that combines three different genres of Hip Hop, R&B and Pop. Early on artists like Chaka Khan, Prince, and Jody Watley who were R&B artists often used rap artists in their songs to give it a Hip Hop sound.
This genre wasn't popularized until 1995 when artists such as Mariah Carey and Mary J Blige first did it. Some would say Mariah Carey started the trend with her Hip Hop/Pop/R&B collaboration with O.D.B. for her #1 song Fantasy. Mary J Blige who collaborated with rapper Method Man for their #1 hit "All I Need" touched all three of these genres a well and could easily be the trend setter as well.
