The second ship to bear the name, HMAS Towoomba (FFH 156) is an Anzac class frigate, laid down by Tenix Defence Systems at Williamstown in Victoria on 26 July 2002, launched on 16 May 2003 by Ms Judy Blight and commissioned on 8 October 2005.

HMAS Toowoomba hit a navigation marker off Gladstone in March 2006 and was repaired at Williamstown, Victoria. Toowoomba began her first deployment to the Persian Gulf on 4 January 2007.[1]
