Talk:Holm
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Coming from the article about the Orkney isles, I was directed to this disambiguation page. It didn't really explain why small islands in (at least) norther Scotland are referred to as Holms. Perhaps a page on that aspect of the word should be added? My (unverified) guess is that etymologically it traces back to the old Norse word that lead to the modern Swedish word "Holme" meaning a small island, the same word that is the ending of Stockholm. Only my €0.02.
