Dr. Hone Ropata was a fictional character in the New Zealand TV drama Shortland Street. He was a doctor at the Shortland Street medical centre.
He his most well known for having Nurse Carrie Burton telling him "You're not in Guatemala now, Dr Ropata!" when he wanted to perform a risky procedure[1].
He was accused of murdering one of his nephew's (Manny Atutahi) friends in 1994 and was charged with murder. At the trial he was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.
In 1995, Caitlin Devereux left her husband to be with Dr. Ropata, after frequent prison visit sessions.

Dr. Ropata was engaged to Claire in 1992 but she ended up in bed with Dr. Chris Warner. He also dated Dr. Meredith Flemming and Hillary Sturgess. After his murder trial, he started seeing his lawyer, Caitlin, only to find out that she was married.
He was portrayed by Temuera Morrison from 1992 - 1995.
