Hope Was Here is a 2000 novel by Joan Bauer about a 16 year old teenage girl, Hope Yancey, helping out in a political campaign in Mulhoney, Wisconsin (while at the same time, being a waitress). The name of the girl, "Hope", is very symbolic throughout the story. It won the Newbery Honor Award in 2001.
