Horton (Dr. Seuss)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Horton is a fictional elephant from the books Horton Hatches the Egg and Horton Hears a Who, both by Dr. Seuss. Horton is a sweet, kind, and caring elephant who cares about other animals or people. Though he goes through many hardships, whether trying to keep an egg warm through storms, rough travels, and humiliating shows or trying to save a small planet from harm of sour kangaroos, mean monkeys, and black bottomed eagles, he always triumphs and either the egg hatches into an elephant-bird or the planet is saved and respected by the others. The Horton series is just as famous as Dr. Seusses other famous books such as Cat in the Hat, How the Grinch stole Christmas, Green Eggs and Ham, The Lorax, and Yertle the Turtle.

[edit] Horton Characters
- Horton: a sweet, kind, and caring elephant who is the protaganist in both books. He has gone through many adventures from sitting on an egg to protecting the city of Who-ville.
- Mayzie: an ignorant, lazy, good-for-nothing bird who asked Horton to sit on her egg while she went to Palm Beach.
- Baby Elephant-Bird: the hatchling from the egg that Horton sat on. Named Morton in the TV series The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss.
- Sour Kangaroo: an evil kangaroo that did not believe that Who-ville was real. She almost destroyed Who-ville by tieing up Horton and placing it in Hot oil until the Whos were heard.
- Mayor of Who-ville: Mayor of the microscopic city of Who-ville. Cares very much about Who-ville. (A question remains: Is this the same Who-ville in How the Grinch stole Christmas, or a very different Who-ville.)
- Wickersham Brothers: Cruel Monkeys that kidnapped the clover which Who-ville sat on and helped the kangaroo tie up Horton.
- Vlad Vlad-i-koff: a Black bottomed eagle that is asked to get rid of Who-ville and when he does, he drops it into a huge patch of clovers.
- Jo-Jo: a very quiet child in Whoville that eventually saved Who-ville by shouting "YOP". He has a much larger role in Seussical the Musical.
