Hostile Space is a massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) that takes place in a vast persistent galaxy. Players take on the role of a star ship captain with goals including planetary exploration, mining, bounty hunting, smuggling goods, and taking on terrible space monsters. There is a diverse set of races and classes to select from. Rewards include ship upgrades, new weapons, psionic abilities, new skills, and alien technology. Gameplay is focused toward small team play but soloing is possible throughout the game.

Wrote by Tidal: Several hundred years ago, on planet Earth, a terrible cataclysm occurred, which ravaged the planet’s surface, and killed untold millions of people. Fire rained from the sky, The Sea rose and flowed across the land, Volcanoes began to erupt, and Meteors showered down from the heavens. Only a few hundred people managed to survive, luckily escaping on a newly built spacecraft. They drifted through space for many decades, all the time Mourning for their lost friends and families, and the near extinction of the Human race.

After the first decade, most had lost hope. However a small few still held onto hope, and those few were the reason that the survivors were able to keep on living. They motivated them as much as they could, and they managed to start looking for a new home. After a few months of nothing, they got a stroke of luck! They had found a stay system with two planets that they believed to be able to support Human life. They named the system Cythris, and the two planets Carthage and Cythris Prime. After a few decades of hard work, they managed to built settlements on both planets and form a real society again, and it wasn’t long until they began to explore the area around them, which was when the problems started….

During the exploration of the surrounding area, there were strange happenings. Sometimes an expedition would leave, but would not return. Other times, the expedition’s ship would return, with heavy damage, still barely working, but with no occupants. This began to happen more frequently until one day, when they found out the cause of these mysterious events, which was…Aliens.

They came suddenly, and with no warning. The scanning stations on the two planet’s surfaces didn’t detect them, and neither did the scanners and telescopes out in space above the planets. First they attacked a small mining ship that was mining the asteroid field that was just outside the system, then a small group of military fighters went out to discern the cause, and encountered one of the Alien’s ships, who identified themselves as the Tyv, and that the Cythris system(The Kahkir’caeras System in their language) was their territory, and that the Humans had violated it and so their lives were all forfeit. All the small squadron of fighters had time to do was relay this message of doom back to their home planet of Carthage, before they were obliterated.

Upon the receipt of this message on Carthage, the planet’s inhabitants began to gear themselves for battle. After all, Carthage was well renowned for being the place where the greatest pilots and fighters came from(*1). They began to arm and launch all of their space fleet, and also transmitted a message to Cythris Prime, the planet well renowned for their amazing advances on technology and starship design(*2), telling them to mobilize their largest capital ship, the C.F.S(Cythris Fleet Starship) Ravager, and any other ships they could muster, and meet them in orbit around Carthage.

The two fleets met, and began to form a strategy to fight the Tyv. However, during the conference between the ship captians, the Tyv began their assault. After rushing back to their ships the fleet began to move out to meet the enemy head on. Explosions of unimaginable proportions began to start, all around the area, laser blasts shot from ship to ship, sometimes bouncing off the shields and the hulls of the ships, ricocheting around until dissipating. Fighters and smaller ships whirled around in the confusion, diving in and out of firefights, moving from target to target, everywhere you could see, there were ships in pitched battle, the larger capital ships of either side slowly moving alongside each other to pound at the enemy with their laser cannons and plasma bolts, fighters skimming along their surfaces, either firing at the exteriors of the capital ships with lasers and torpedoes, or shooting at the enemy fighters to support the larger ships.

After many long hours(Some survivors said it lasted days) the fighting began to end, the Humans barely managing to win out against the Tyv. After great sacrifice they had won, and they returned to their home planets, all exploration put on hold until they had a plan in place, should this event ever happen again…

Two hundred years later, and the Humans had progressed massively in all areas, Socially, Technologically, Physically and finally diplomatically. A huge starbase had been constructed, where the new cadets could meet with each other, and talk to seasoned veterans. There had been contact with other Alien species’. The Gi’Pok, Eschar, Terrix, Kalarix and Tekorus. Finally, after many months of negotiating and decision making, an alliance was formed between the 6 races, and Cythris became home to all the new allies of the Humans. New technology was invented, new ships designed and built, and piloting and fighting techniques learned. Soon, the Alliance had explored through most of the Inner Ring(*3), and had explored outside it as well. A new threat was discovered, the threat of the Brood. An inquisition was formed to combat this new enemy, and many pilots from each race joined the fleet and began to train and become ready to fight against the Brood someday. Three outposts were built in the home star systems of three of the races of the Alliance. Medusa, Talitha and Sirrah. New pilots still began to graduate from the Cythris Academy and began to explore the galaxy.

And now, Young One, it is your turn to journey into the galaxy, and to become a strong and valued member of the Cythris Fleet. Go forth, and meet your Destiny.
