Talk:Hossain Mohammad Ershad
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Often referred to as 'Polli-bondhu' (friend of the rural peple) Ershad made huge advances in the agriculture industry and much of the work during his tenure helped the poor in Bangladesh immensely. Ershad also was responsible for major infastructural advances in Bangladesh, noteably the major road networks in the capital, highways and bridges including the famous Jamuna bridge.
A leader who initially was looked upon as a dictator, became a hero of Bangladesh, he was accepted worldwide and his likeable personality won much aid and funding for the nation of Bangladesh from abroad. After his resignation and subsequent imprisonment, Ershad stood at 5 different seats in National Elections and were elected from all 5 seats from both subsequent elections after falling from power. His individual popularity has continued to rise and both other major political parties in Bangladesh have persecuted him, particularly prior to elections, throwing the 70 year old into jail and then blackmailing him into submission to prevent him being elected back into power.
General Ershad's popularity seems to be rising day after day, the two major political parties, the Awami League and the Bangaldesh Nationalist Party (where many senior leaders are actually from Ershad's Jatiya Party) are begging Ershad for his support for the next elections in Bangladesh as they know he has the deciding factor for the next elections. It is thought that if he joins the opposition he will be thrown into jail, as the last government did before the last elections in Bangladesh.
After more a decade, Ershad is looking to return back to power. Bangladesh is a country ran by organised crime syndicates, and foreign powers. The Awami League are fully funded by the Indian secret services, and both major political parties give immunity from prosecution to major crime syndicates as they help them to come to. Student wings of each of the major political parties are front organisations for Mafia-like crime firms. Ershad's party is the only one free from this disease, his party shelters the least number of criminals and it is well known he has the ability to crush the corruption and crime in Bangladesh with an iron fist if given the chance to come to power.
The future is looking good for Bangladesh now there is a chance Ershad could return, although it is feared he may try to please the 'guardians of democracy' and not be too hard on opposition parties when he comes to power, although it is well recognised that crushing illegal economy crippling rebellions such as general strikes is the only solution to pave the way for mass-sclae foreign investment which Bangladesh is capable of attractive if political stability is brought about.
Ershad and his Jatiya Party are the only party to propose a bill outlawing general strikes or 'hartals' and also the only political party to oppose strikes openly and refrain from being part of them.
