Question on top grossing tables

This is from personal interest, since I am working on the years in film. There are about 120 years in the list. Do you plan to add tables for top grossing to all of them? Hoverfish 18:50, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Duh of course no lol, they are too many.--hottie 04:18, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi Hotwiki, I asked because there is this work going on to make all years in film presented in the same basic way. I've contributed more than 50 hours in it lately. Naturally I wouldn't like to start undoing work of others. I contacted a user (and admin) who had made tables for the later years' "Other films released", asking him of his opinion and that's what he answered:

Hi there Hoverfish. I think it makes more sense if all the years in film are presented in the same way as they are all essentially presenting the same material. It seems a little ridiculous if the vast majority of the articles are in one format, and just four are presented in another for the sole reason that they cover more recent events. Yours, Rje 19:10, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

I would like to have your view too, since you contribute work, so that I can think of a way to make all years have a consistent presentation and align my plans with other ongoing efforts. Hoverfish 07:07, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Flags1.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. I've posted a comment to keep the article. Check it out here. Although I did think she was annoying some times, it would be subjective to delete the article for that reason. You did a good job with the article and that shouldn't be deleted. -- Luigi-ish 15:13, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

I saw you changed the colors of Template:Survivorseries, to make it look a lot better. You'll probably want to do the same thing to Template:The Amazing Race. I think the colors on the Race template look terrible. TeckWizTalkContribs# of Edits 19:08, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Re: Help

Hotwiki, I'm not sure if D'Amato is notable enough for a Wikipedia article to be written about her. Also, please do not post on several users' talk pages asking them to vote one way on an AFD discussion; this is known as canvassing and is frowned on. Another thing to consider is that before the admin closing the debate decides whether to delete or keep the article, they will be considering the strength of people's arguments and what the relevant policy and guideline pages say rather than sheer numbers of voters on either side. So, I would suggest expanding the article to establish everything that is notable about D'Amato. And if it gets deleted, that doesn't stop you from writing about her at all; just not on a separate Wikipedia article. Hope that helps. Extraordinary Machine 19:29, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Why did u add the replacable fair use image tag in the picture I uploaded while it have a source?--hottie 05:28, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
Because I think it's replacable. Having a source is not the issue (I did not add {{no source}} after all), and I think the above "stock message" explains it fairly clearly. The image was not used to ilustrate some spesific historic event, or her use of makeup or anyting like that, it seems to just be there to identify the subject of the article (if not you would need to expand the article to discuss something relevant to that image in particular and why it is importnat). For that purpose any photo would do, so a freely licensed replacement image could reasonably be found or created, so this image fail point #1 of Wikipedia's fair use criterea :"No free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information" (emphasis mine). --Sherool (talk) 06:30, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Mislabelling images

Hi, please don't mislabel images at Wikipedia. Repeatedly labelling images with incorrect info can be seen as vandalism, per Wikipedia:Vandalism#Types of vandalism subsections Image vandalism and Copyrighted material vandalism. Thank you. --Kjoonlee 19:05, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Please use edit summaries

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. JDtalk 11:16, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

I know you use it sometimes, but you've only used it five times in the last 200 edits you've made. Using it more often would help other editors, especially when you make a lot of edits to an article in a short time. JDtalk 11:23, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Reverting your edits

Thank you for discussing this, and for starting to use edit summaries. In reply to your first point: adjusting the size or dimensions of a template does not make it more encyclopaedic; such templates are a tool to aid in navigation, nothing more. I objected to the use of grey in your initial edits because I felt the colour change unnecessary and innapropriate. While there is no need to make the colour match the subject, there is also no need to make it clash for your own personal reasons. The standard for such templates is a light blue, if you truly want to insist upon standardisation, then you would have followed that course: you did not; therefore your protestation is without basis. Also, the bar lines are there for a reason, aiding greatly in comprehension and clarity, their removal is a mistake. My objections were not reflected in your, numerous, subsequent edits, so I felt the best option to revert all but one of your changes.

Secondly, the precedents on images you mention are irrelevant (especially since you ignore them when it comes to templates). The purpose of the images on the page is to represent the group and the changes that it has undergone over time. The previous selection of images did that better, with a mixture of album covers and publicity shots. As all are there under fair-use, the change is an aesthetic one, and as there is dispute, I am reverting your edits and starting a discussion on the talk page. Please represent your view there rather than simply changing the format that other contributors have worked to over previous years. I hope this all helps explain my position. Cheers. Driller thriller 16:23, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Don't be flippant, you are well aware I am referring to changes in style and presentation. It merely devalues your argument to resort to facetious remarks like that. Discuss this on the talk page as I suggested, if you please. Thank you. Driller thriller 16:39, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
Apologies, I only read the second half of your message because of its formatting. All other points you raised I have answered previously. My reply stands. Driller thriller 16:42, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Question

You said the following (signature copy-and-pasted from my page): 1.What the problem with [[Image:HoleInTheHead.gif]] ???--hottie 15:56, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

2. Are you watching my contributions?

3. You just deleted almost all the pics from the Sugababes' single articles but you also removed the singles chronology it means you're not actually reading the things you remove you just remove remove remove, so would you added back those singles chronology you remove since it's not illegal and doesn't need a "fair use sentence"--hottie 16:02, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

As to number 1, I don't know. Can you be more specific? Which page was it removed from, etc.? For number 2, yes. Your recent image uploads have been including detailed fair-use rationales but if I remember correctly, your earlier contributions were not. I'm still not convinced that the images you upload are being used to provide critical commentary in the articles they are being used in, though. Note that it is not sufficient just to use an image to illustrate an article, the image must make a meaningful contribution to the article. As to #3, if you can find a single picture I removed which had an appropriate fair-use rationale, please let me know. I had no idea I was removing your images, but the ones I was removing did not have a rationale for the articles they were being used in. ALL fair-use images require a detailed fair-use rationale, so you are mistaken that one is not required for a singles chronology. Additionally, the images must make a meaningful contribution to the article, which was not the case for the singles chronology. --Yamla 18:49, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
As an additional, it is clear to me that you make a meaningful and productive contribution to the Wikipedia. My only issue with you is that some of the images you upload aren't being used according to WP:FUC. Without trying to put words in your mouth, you seem to believe that it is appropriate to use a fair-use image solely to spice up a page which, unfortunately, is not the case. In fact, Wikipedia generally discourages fair-use images at all and deliberately makes uploaders jump through hoops to justify their use. While I can understand that you may be frustrated at me, please understand that I do see you expending a lot of effort and contributing a lot of content to the Wikipedia. I'd like to help you understand the fair-use issues a bit. Also, I'm surprised that a person who has contributed as much as you does not wish to be an administrator. Do you mind if I ask you why? --Yamla 18:54, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Downtown

There was an extensive discussion about how much coverage Emma Bunton's version warranted. It was decided that, in keeping with general Wikipedia policy, infoboxes and templates should be reserved for the originator of a song and not be added for subsequent versions. This has nothing to do with "bias." You are free to post your opinion about the matter on the discussion page, but please do not revert the article again. Thank you. Image:Em04.jpeg

Thanks for uploading Image:Em04.jpeg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

I noticed that you added a fair use rationale to the image I uploaded, Image:HurtVideo.png. Thanks! I appreciate that. —ShadowHalo 19:55, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Template:The Amazing Race

It looks like you tried to change the table to blue, which you said was the universal color. However, it took away the dividers and no blue was there so I reverted it. editor review me!-TeckWizTalkContribs# of Edits 21:35, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

It was a mistake sorry I don't had enough time to revert it--hottie 08:15, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Template:Westlife

Please don't add Westlife's template to articles where they don't belong, such as cover versions they have done, such as you did on Mandy, and all the other songs I see in your recent history. The template should only go on articles DIRECTLY related to Westlife such as their albums. That's all. Thanks. Cricket02 13:16, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Who is this member talking??? Basically Cricket02 you're totally WRONG!!!!, why should I not put a template on the articles about the songs they released they might not be group or person who originally released it but having released it on the market and eventually charted on the Top 10 I think nothing is wrong about it, it's definitely related geeez why are those peoples just keep saying negativity about my edits instead of msging about good things I've done in Wikipedia it's just make me sad. Cricket02 I'm not new here like you so don't teach and saying DIRECTLY you're not on my league and once the artist or band covered the song it's ok to put their template on the page and template are not just DIRECTLY for album --hottie 14:25, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
    • Look at the article Mandy (song) with the template for Westlife. Now what would that article in particular look like if everyone who did notable cover versions of that song stuck their template on it. The article is about the song Mandy - NOT Westlife. They are mentioned twice in the article for goodness sakes, the first time in the first paragraph mentioning that it was a #1 hit single for Westlife, why is that not good enough? What you're doing is overkill, that's all I'm saying. I'm an avid fan of many artists as well, but I wouldn't want to degrade their integrity by flooding Wikipedia articles, have a little more respect for these articles. The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
for all your positive contributions to music-related articles Cricket02 14:43, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
I wouldn't talk anymore, the article is not that big and if I'm only a fan of Westlife I could do some changes in the article not just adding their template. Thanks for barnstar anyway.--HW-Barnstar PLS 14:45, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
